Alexander Wang took his final bow last Saturday at Balenciaga Spring Summer 2016 show. It marked the final collection that he would be doing for the French house. This collection is distinctively different from what Wang has done in the past for Balenciaga. The collection is entirely in white or light shade of cream colour which is very different from Wang’s previous collection. This collection is not only different but Nicole Phelps from Vogue Runway remarked that this might be his best collection for Balenciaga.
When Wang is interviewed at the backstage, he said “Let’s think about it the opposite way, let’s think about fabrics and shapes that feel supple and simple, but approach them in an artisanal, couture way.’ ” Indeed I personally think he delivered a very couture collection. This leads us to the next question: The question isn’t how Wang will fare now, but how Balenciaga will pick up the momentum again?
